Your visual content sorted for a year

Sorting your photo content for a year sounds a bit daunting, doesn’t it? You’re probably thinking, I don’t have time to take all the photos I need to post this week never mind all year. But there is a way you can rest easy, know you’ve got a years worth of high-quality content tailored to your business and save time…a yearly branding photography package.

It’s often underestimated how important photographs are to businesses but they can make a HUGE impact. They can dictate what markets you sell in, the price point you sell for and determine how strongly your customers will relate and connect to you and your business.

For your customers, your imagery is your brand. So no matter how hard you’ve worked on your branding colours, values, website, and offerings. If your images aren’t up to scratch, high quality and relatable for your audience; it will undermine everything you’ve worked hard to build.

What would you say if I told you you could sort all of your photo content for the year in less than 10 hours - 10 hours out of your whole year!

What’s your normal process for posting a photo online? You might have spent longer than you’d care to admit taking the perfect selfie; or wandering around looking for the perfect light or backdrop; how long do you spend re-arranging your desk so it’s insta worthy; or searching for the perfect prop; or you might have got lost scrolling through your phones camera roll. By the time you’ve done all that, edited your image and figured out your caption; you could be looking at around 20-30 minutes just for one post! Then think about how often you’re posting - Every day? 5 times a week? You could be spending two and a half hours a week just finding photos - and that’s just for one platform.

Over the year that works out at about 120 hours, that’s 15 working days! 15 days where all you’re doing is looking for which photo to post.

Think of everything else you could be doing with that time! How much more money you could be making if you can focus that time on other areas of your business!

I was chatting recently with my Instagram audience and some of my past clients about what they would need and look for in a yearly branding photography package. Here’s what they said…

How do photographs tie in with planning content?

When it comes to planning content it seems that most of you have a plan for your content/upcoming launches and events for the next few months; while the rest of you just wing it as it happens.

With a yearly branding shoot package, you get multiple shoots throughout the year - this can help you think more logically about what’s coming up in your business and how that will dictate the types of content you need. Before each shoot look at what new products or services you have launching, events you’re planning or things you want to focus on, this means that your visual content will reflect those things and be the most useful for you.

If you’re more of a wing it person - that’s no problem either multiple shoots throughout a year can still benefit you. Instead of focusing on specific marketing campaigns or events, you could focus each shoot on different aspects of your business like behind the scenes, your processes, you, your customer experience etc. You’ll get a wide range of images that will cover the whole of your story so no matter what comes up you’ll have content that will work for that.

When should you have new photographs taken?

Most businesses said that for them, new photographs would be most useful seasonally or when they have new products or services launching.

Having photos taken seasonally and having photos taken when you have new things launching can benefit businesses for different reasons, but often they align together.

Seasonal photos are super useful for businesses! Why? Because they relate to your audience. If you’re only posting images of hot summer days, when it gets to winter, there’s going to be a disconnect. Your content isn’t going to be in line with what your customers are experiencing at that time and they won’t build a strong connection.

Photographs, when you’re launching a new product or service, are a no brainer really, aren’t they?! How can you sell something if you can’t show what it is? In my experience, businesses, especially product businesses, have multiple launches and new products per year - often aligning with the seasons eg. Christmas collection, summer collection etc.

What type of content do you need?

It seemed to be a 50/50 split between businesses wanting just photo content or photos and video

Both photo and video can be invaluable to your business in different ways. High-quality photographs allow you to easily introduce yourself, strengthen your brand and make your business easier for your customers to understand. There's a proven increase in engagement and conversion rates of high-quality photographs, and they’ll help your business stand out. Video is something that’s not as widely used by small businesses but it’s a great way to add variety into your online content. On a lot of platforms,15-second video receives higher engagement rates, and it means you can take advantage of parts of a platform you might not have used before like IGTV or video ads. Video is super versatile, you can use it to tell your story, show behind the scenes, share client testimonials, show your products in use, or show different features off. And video content is something that’s only going to gain traction over the next few years. More and more platforms are looking for ways they can incorporate video, did you know Etsy is in the process of testing out and introducing 15-second product videos to listings?!

Having both video and photo just means that you can maximise your content and the different platforms.

What should you spend on photo content?

What you’re going to be comfortable or able to pay for a year's worth of content is going to be different for every business. But remember you’re not just paying for images. You're investing in tailored content that will reflect your business, brand and values; that will connect with your audience and lead to more sales, and you’re getting your precious time back.

So how much is your time worth? At the moment you could be spending 10+ hours per week just choosing an image to post. Where else could you be spending that time? What difference could having that time make to your business?
