For me, maternity sessions are best when they are at home. Mum to be is nesting, the nursery is ready, washing is done and the excitement is bubbling over.
You want to be relaxed when you're having a maternity session so I avoid posing and heavily styling photographs, we simply relaxed with a cuppa and chatted all things babies. I of course documented the gorgeous bump, but a maternity session isn't just about the bump, its a chance to capture all those little details - special gifts you might have ready, those tiny little baby clothes, babies first book collection - just like photographing a wedding, a maternity session is about a story. The story of you meeting your new favourite person. And in this case it wasn't just a story about mum waiting to meet baby, it was a story of 'the first baby' - the pooch - waiting to meet them too.
I love photographing emotions, and what better emotions to capture than excitement and love - everything a maternity session is full of.
This was such a beautiful maternity session to be a part of, and it was made even better by the fact I got to photograph the new bundle of joy a few weeks later.
